Carinya Sharples, Founder
I am a freelance journalist and editor of ten years. I’ve worked for various online and print outlets, including BBC World Service, Channel 4, The Guardian, Time Out London, Visit London, Real Travel and The Voice.
Creating Guyana50: Memories of Life in British Guiana is both a personal and professional journey for me. Throughout my life, I’ve grown up in London listening to my dad remembering his youth in British Guiana. And last year I thought, I’d love to hear more stories like this and record them for future generations – as well as people who don’t know much about Guyana (or confuse it with Ghana, as happens often).
I believe in the power of stories – especially oral storytelling – to educate, inform and entertain. I hope people sit back, listen and escape to another time and place.
